How to Clean a DLP Color Wheel

Every six months DLP color wheels need to be cleaned especially if the setting is in dusty, smokey, or greasy. Sometimes at some restaurants, restaurant owners or places that have a high customer jam will discover that their TVs are having some picture filth due to the environment that is smoke-filled or greasy fumes from the restaurant’s kitchen. In this situation, there is no need for you to change the color wheel but you just need to do a speedy cleaning in order to save money on replacement parts and save your effort and time too. Replacing your color wheel has also other problems that you may encounter. If you have TV at home and if you encounter some picture quality, this does not imply to specifically remove and replace its color wheels but instead you have to try to clean it using these tips.

Prepare the following materials before cleaning:

  • Cotton swab or Q-tips
  • Denatured alcohol.
  • Soft cloth (microfiber cloth is more preferred)

Instructions:

  1. Immerse cotton swab or q-tips in denatured alcohol just enough to wet it. Do not over wet.
  2. In a circular motion, swab lightly one color at a time. In this way you can remove the dust or grease that cannot be removed by using only your cloth.
  3. If your cotton swab gets too saturated, you can replace it with new one. Just prepare enough q-tips for the cleaning.
  4. Repeat so that you can assure that the color wheel is well cleaned.
  5. Get your soft cloth or your microfiber cloth and wipe it to your appliance. This can remove any dust or film build ups and also fingerprints leaving your TV shiny and clear. This can also improve the condition of your color wheel as well as the picture on your screen.
