How to Clean Down Pillows

Down pillows are made up of delicate filling such as feathers or goose that provide luxurious comfort at home. Cleaning down pillow is easy but proper knowledge with the cleaning procedure is essential so as to maintain the natural fluffiness and softness of your pillow.

The things that you will need are mild detergent, washing machine, cold water, tennis ball and dryer.

Here are the steps in cleaning down pillows:

  • First thing to note is to read the label of your down pillows so that you will know the things that should be avoided.
  • Make sure that your down pillow doesn’t have tears or scratches to avoid mess inside the washing machine.
  • Place the pillow inside the washing machine and pour in few amounts of mild detergent. Use cold water in cleaning drop pillows. For stained drop pillow, you can use a detergent with degreaser.
  • Run the washing machine in a light setting.
  • Rinse the drop pillows using cold water and place it inside your dryer.
  • Drop a tennis ball inside your dryer to maintain the fluffiness of your drop pillows. Run the dryer to the lightest setting.
  • Remove the pillows immediately after running it in a dryer. Fluff your drop pillows by hand to keep their shape and fluffiness.
  • Allow the pillows to completely dry and place a pillow cover to protect them from getting dirty.

Avoid using abrasive cleaning solution as this can permanently damage your drop pillows. You can pour small amount of bleach for stubborn stain.
