How to Clean a DVD Player

A DVD player is an electronic device that plays multimedia discs that are produced under a DVD-video or DVD-audio. DVD players also play audio discs such MP3s and Video Compact Discs. There are also DVD players that play MPEG-4 formats that are popular nowadays. These devices are connected into a television set to play all the videos. However, these devices can also accumulate dirt and dust overtime and it must be cleaned.

There are the ways on how clean DVD player:

  • DVD players must be clean efficiently. Prepare the things needed like air duster, cleaning disc, Q tips, rubbing alcohol, oil and a screw driver. These things must be ready beforehand to save time and effort in cleaning.
  • Before starting cleaning the DVD player, unplugged first the device from the outlet, TV and other connections. Find a place that is suitable for cleaning like a flat steady table.
  • Inspect the outside portion DVD player for dirt and any possible problems. Check for deep-seated dirt and remove it by using the air duster. Be careful in removing dust because some may get inside the player. Sway the air duster unto the DVD player to get rid of the dirty particles in the surface.
  • Put a cleaning disc into the player and let it do all the cleaning for the meantime. If the disc is playing correctly, then it is cleaned already. However, if “”Quilt ‘O Dust” appeared then it needs further cleaning.
  • Disassemble the DVD player using the screw driver. If you are not confident with it, better leave it to the professionals. Bring the DVD player to any local electronic repair shop. Still, if you want to try cleaning the player on your own, carefully remove all the screws until the player is opened. If the player is still under warranty, better leave it or do not remove any warranty sticker.
  • Do not remove anything once the player is opened. Remove all deep-seated dirt found inside the player. Do not tilt or rotate the player, just simply wipe all the dust using the air duster.
  • Get the rubbing alcohol and Q tip. Put a little amount of alcohol in the Q tip to wipe on the laser. Be careful not spill alcohol on the circuit. After cleaning all the area, get a light brush and dip 3-in-1 oil unto it so that it can be applied on the rails of the laser.
  • Restore back the DVD player and return all screw drivers in place. Plug all the DVD wirings and start to check if the player is working well.

It is a risk to clean the DVD player’s internal parts. Any warranty labels must be kept in place. Avoid using harsh chemicals in cleaning. This could cause some chemical reactions and bring damage to the device. Always ask for advice before doing further cleaning.
