How To Clean A Microwave

Microwave Oven

As we are living now in a fast-paced world, people are expected to get things done quickly. Thus, the using a microwave in heating and cooking our food has become common practice. With its usual use it may appear unpleasant both to the eyes and the nose. But there is an easy way to resolve the issue of a dirty and smelly microwave without taking much of your time. Here are the steps in cleaning your microwave:

Step 1: Gather all the equipment needed

  • Microwavable cup
  • 1 tsp of Vinegar
  • Dish rag
  • Detergent soap for washing
  • Pot holder
  • Baking soda

Step 2: Boil

After gathering all the necessary equipment and ingredients, you may immediately start cleaning the crusted food particles inside the microwave. Using a microwavable cup, fill it with water about 1/2 of the size of the cup and mix it with 1 tsp of vinegar. For practical reasons, vinegar is used since it has a cleansing property that would detoxify appliances at home. Put the microwavable cup inside and let it boil for 5 minutes. After which, leave the cup inside the microwave for another 5 minutes for its steam would allow hardened food particles soften.

Step 3: Take out all the innards

Next step would be to remove the microwavable cup. In doing so, make see to it that you are using a pot holder for it might still be hot. Once the cup is in hand, it has to be set aside for later use. Then, remove the tray inside the microwave. Wash the two items with a use of a dish washing soap and pat them dry after.

Step 4: Clean the inside area

Make sure that the microwave is unplugged to prevent any untoward accidents. Since, the crusted particles are fairly expected to be soft now from the boil, using a microwave cleaner bought in the supermarkets may not really be necessary. Using a damp cloth, start wiping the inside top portion with a firm long stroke to easily remove the food particles. Remember that friction is important element in cleaning. After which you proceed to wiping the four corners of the oven. You may wash or shake your rag in the sink or trash can as needed. When cleaning the bottom area, ensure that all particles which have fallen from above and sides are wiped off thoroughly. In case you find it difficult to reach some parts of the microwave, you may use a cotton swab to clean out that particular portion.

Step 5: Clean the stains

To ensure that your microwave has a spotlessly clean inside area, you must inspect the surface closely for particles. In an event that you would be having a hard time seeing, the use of flashlight is encouraged. If stains are still found, do not panic. Just simply make use of a mixed thick paste of baking soda, dip your washed dish rag in it and rub it on the stained area with enough friction to remove it. After which, use a fresh damp cloth and wipe it on the surface which you have cleaned to remove the thick paste of baking soda.

Step 6: Clean the outside area

Simply apply water, multi-purpose cleaner or vinegar to the outside surface, to clean the outer part of your microwave. Do not forget to clean the back of the microwave including the cord as they also get dirty. Do not include the metal portion of the cord for it may cause electrical problems when plugged wet.

Step 7: Reassemble the microwave

Now you are close to having brand new microwave. But you are not yet done cleaning. You have to lift the microwave up and you would be surprise seeing some specks of noodles or pieces of plastic food wrappers underneath it. Remove those and dispose of them properly in the trash can. Finally, reassemble the microwave by returning the microwave tray inside. Leave it opened for at least 2 hours to make sure that it dries out completely.

Give yourself a break for you are now done cleaning your microwave. Congratulations and enjoy heating your favorite meal!
