Cast iron pan has variety of uses and it can lasts for years with proper maintenance. Vast families are still utilizing this great grandmother’s cookware. An enameled cast iron and conventional cast iron doesn’t have the same qualities. The good thing to note in owning an enameled cast iron pan is that the cleaning process doesn’t involve expensive maintenance.
The things that you will need are bucket, warm or hot water, mild liquid soap, sponge, dishwasher and old towel.
Here are the important instructions in cleaning enameled cast iron:
- Read the manufacturer’s label first before doing the cleaning process.
- Gather all the necessary cleaning tools.
- Wash your enamel cast iron pan with warm water and set it aside.
- Get a small bucket for your cleaning solution and pour in hot water. Add few amounts of mild liquid soap into the bucket and mix the solution properly.
- Get a sponge and moisten it with your cleaning solution.
- Scrub the soiled surface using a sponge. Pay particular attention to food debris.
- Rinse your cooking ware with warm running water. Make sure to remove any soapy residue and set it aside in a clean place.
- Place your enamel cast iron pan into your stove and preheat the cooking ware for 3 to 5 minutes before cooking. Allowing your pan to preheat can help preserve its coat and aids in easy removal of food debris.
- Make sure to cook your food recipe using enameled cast iron on low – medium heat. Allowing the food to cook in low setting can spread the heat more evenly preventing damage on the coating. This method protects your cookware from hard food debris.
- After using your cookware, allow it to cool down before you proceed on the cleaning process. Leave your pan for 30 minutes to an hour to completely cool. Avoid placing them directly into cold water as it can damage the surface of your pan.
- Repeat the above steps in cleaning enamel cast iron pan until you reached the desired cleanliness.
- Make certain that your cast iron pan is totally dry before storing them.
You can also use a dishwasher in cleaning your enamel cast iron pan. A dishwasher is more efficient to use and saves more time than doing manual cleaning in a bucket. Avoid using hard cleaning solution as it can permanently damage the surface of your pan.
