- Spray your pan using a solution used for cleaning an oven and seal it in a plastic bag.
- Store it in the bag for one to two days. Then, remove it out from the plastic bag and scrub with a brass brush.
- Repeat step 3 if the grease does not loosen up. Apply liberal amount of cleaner to stubborn areas.
- When still not successful in removing the grease build-up, consider soaking the pan in a mixed solution of half gallon water and lye in a container.
- Just let the dirty pans soak for at least five days. Then, remove the pile of dirt by scrubbing it with a brass brush.
- Use an excellent or new wire wheel attached to a hand drill to remove mild rust of the frying pan.
- Rust may be softened by soaking the pan in a white vinegar and water solution for a couple of hours.
- After the pan is cleaned, you may begin the process of seasoning through putting the pan back to the oven for four to five minutes. Then, apply a little amount of cooking vegetable spray, bacon fat or lard.
- Again, place the skillet into the oven that is set up to 225 degree for 25 minutes. Then, immediately wipe and remove the dissolved grease.
- To complete the initial seasoning, put back the pan in the oven for thirty minutes or more.
- Remember that the process of seasoning should be continued while in use particularly if fatty foods like sausage and bacon are cooked.
- Have the pan boiled in hot water after cooking so that the thick build-up of grease will be avoided. Then, wipe dry the pan using a dry paper towel.
- Finally, you may remove the pan from the oven and apply just an enough amount of oil to buff the surface before storage.
