Awnings provide satisfaction and protection from the harmful rays of the sun. It gives shelter and shade against weather conditions including rain and summer heat. Awnings are manufactured by durable and beautiful colored fabrics to add beauty to your place. But these awnings can also be affected by dirt and microbial growth if not cleaned.
These are the ways on how to clean awnings:
- Weather conditions might affect the awnings. It is important to check and clean them at least once in a month. Dust and dirt might mount up if awnings are not cleaned. Before cleaning, inspect it for any possible damage and other problems.
- There are different types of awning but fabrics are the one that is hard to clean. Mostly, same cleaning materials are needed in different awnings.
- Prepare brush, detergent soap or cleaning solution, water, basin and sealer. Gather these materials first before cleaning to save time and effort. In case of other problems, prepare masking tapes.
- If the awning is made of aluminum inspect if it has chalked over. Get the masking tape and apply to the chalked area and pull the tape off. You can see a white residue if the awning has chalked. Therefore, it needs to be clean.
- Clean the aluminum awning using a brush. Get the basin filled with water and detergent soap. Start scrubbing the aluminum until it is cleansed. Rinse off using water and apply sealer after.
- To clean the awning made of fabric, remove it first. Using a spray container, fill it with water and soap or a cleaning solution.
- Wash the fabric awning by spraying the soapy water and scrub off dirt and dust. Molds and bacteria may build up due to dirt accumulation.
- For hard stains, pour some concentrated soap solution to remove deep-seated dirt. Then scrub off vigorously but be careful not to damage the fabric awnings.
- Rinse the awnings using water. Let it dry then apply a water-resistant sealer for added protection.
Awnings are easily maintained as long as it is cleaned regularly to prevent build up of fungi and molds. Never use strong chemicals and other abrasive solutions especially on the fabric awnings to prevent any damages. If using one, test it first by putting a small drop on the tip of the awning, if there are adverse reactions don’t use it.
