How to Clean Blinds the Easy Way

Having dirty window blinds doesn’t only make your window messy but can also trigger respiratory allergies and skin allergies. Cleaning window blinds is very easy as long as you have proper knowledge on the cleaning process.

The things that you will need are spray, water, liquid soap, soft cotton cloth or soft bristle brush, rubber mat, bowl, and dry cotton cloth.

Here are the steps in cleaning window blinds:

  • Get a rubber mat and place it in the area where you will do the cleaning.
  • If the blinds are very dusty, use feather duster to wipe away dust. You can also put on your mask especially if you’re allergic to dust particles.
  • Most window blinds are detachable. Carefully remove window blinds and put it in the rubber mat.
  • Get a bowl and fill in 200 ml of water. Add your liquid soap and mix it well. This will serve as your cleaning solution.
  • Get your empty spray and pour the soapy solution inside.
  • Spray the entire blinds and let it soak for 5 to 10 minutes. This helps loosen dust particles and facilitate deep cleaning.
  • Use a cotton cloth or soft bristle brush and gently scrub the blinds one by one. Make sure not to scrub too hard as it may damage or fold the blinds.
  • After making sure that the blinds are totally clean, wash the blinds with tap water. You can use a hose with low pressure in rinsing the blinds.
  • Carefully remove excess water from the window blinds by means of shaking.
  • Wipe the blinds with soft cotton cloth and allow the blinds to dry completely or you can also hang it outside.
  • Once the blinds are dried, assemble it back to its desired place.

Remember to avoid strong chemicals in cleaning window blinds especially those with ammonia content. Scrubbing blinds should be in a gentle and parallel motion as they can be very sensitive and can be easily fold. Avoid using hot water as it can distort your window blinds.
