How to Clean CD Scratches

CDs are highly sensitive. One thing that affects its function is the presence of scratch marks, dirt and smudges. Proper cleaning is important in order to restore the function of your CD. Scratch on CDs may produce jumping music or sometimes lose your data sheet. You will certainly feel bad whenever this thing happen. Wanting to maintain the normal functioning of your CD should be one of your major tasks and you can only regain it with proper cleaning method. There are many CD cleaners available in getting rid of these annoying scratches. However, you should begin first in using natural products that are easily obtained at home.

The things that you will need are peanut butter or toothpaste, microfiber cloth, liquid solution and cool water.

Here are the instructions in getting rid of CD scratches:

  • It is important to check the CD first for any possible marks. Fewer scratches can still be managed. Try to double check first if the CD is still working by turning your CD player on with the scratch CD inside.

  • Get back the CD. Hold the center hole with your forefinger and your thumb should support the edge. Before you proceed to the application of scratch remover, you need to remove dust particles first.
  • Mix your mild liquid soap with water. Carefully wash the CD making sure to remove dust present. Presence of dust may further scratch your CD.
  • Get your peanut butter and apply it in your CD using your fingertips. Start peanut butter application from the inner portion going to the edges. You can also use toothpaste as a scratch remover.
  • Put the CD with peanut butter in a dry table and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  • Remove the butter using your fingers. Remove as many as you can. Avoid using any cloth as this may scratch your CD. Simply use your bare hands with this.
  • Get cold water and wash the CD making certain to remove all peanut butter present.
  • After removing the butter, wipe the CD carefully with a microfiber cloth.

  • Leave the CDs for several minutes allowing to completely dry.
  • Place it back on its case away from children.

The presence of oily substance in your peanut butter works well in getting rid of CD scratches. It is best to use a creamy peanut butter. Make certain that the butter doesn’t contain any crunchy flavor. This crunchy particle may further damage your CD. Toothpaste application can also be use in cleaning CD scratches as well as chocolates. If using natural products won’t be effective, you can switch to commercial CD cleaners as long as it is mild and ammonia – free.
