How to Clean Cigarette Smoke Off Walls

Cigarette contains tar and nicotine which leaves unpleasant stain on your wall. Most smokers don’t pay particular attention on smoke stain. It is important to remove nicotine stain as it can discolor your wall.

Removing cigarette smoke stain on your wall is quite easy and requires minimal effort. Here are the important steps in keeping your wall clean from cigarette smoke:

  • Place an old towel beneath the area where there is smoke stain. The towel will absorb any spills and will also protect the floorings.
  • Get your bucket and mix in your cleaning solution. Add water and mild liquid detergent. Stir with your hands.
  • Use a white cotton cloth and wipe the area using your soapy solution.
  • Squeeze out the cloth to remove excess solution.
  • Scrub the stained wall using up and down motion.
  • Get another cloth and moisten it with tap water. Rinse the wall using the cloth and make sure to remove any soapy residue.
  • Wipe the area with a dry towel.
  • For stubborn nicotine stain, mix equal parts of warm water and white vinegar. Pour the solution inside your empty bottle spray.
  • Spray the stained area and let it sit for 2 to 3 minutes.
  • Dip the sponge into tap water and remove excess liquid. Wipe the area with a sponge to remove vinegar smell.
  • Wipe the area with a dry towel.

Smoke stain is easy to get rid of. There are several cleaning solutions available at home. You can also use an ammonia solution with equal parts of water. However, ammonia may leave a hard smell on your wall. Make sure to wear a mask in using ammonia as this can be very dangerous when inhaled. Ventilate the area when using commercial chemicals and use a rubber gloves.
