White vinegar solution is one of the most effective cleaning solutions for coffee maker. With this, you don’t have to spend a lot of money buying commercial cleaning products. It is important to apply an organic acid to your coffee maker as this aid in removing mineral deposits.
The things that you will need are mild soap, bowl, clean cotton cloth, distilled water and white vinegar.
Here are the step by step procedures in cleaning coffee maker with vinegar:
- Gather all necessary things. Wash the coffee maker with water and soap. Include other parts like the filter and the edges.
- Get a bowl and add 200ml of tap water. Add 100 ml of white vinegar into the bowl and stir.
- Get your cotton cloth and moisten it with your vinegar solution. Wipe the coffee maker with your vinegar solution including other elements. You should start wiping at the outer wall of the coffee maker. Do not rinse directly, just wait for at least 10 to 15 minutes. This aids in removing dirt particles at the outer wall.
- Pour the remaining vinegar + water solution into the coffee pot. Set the coffee maker to power mode and turn on the brewing process. (Never put coffee beans, only plain water and vinegar solution).
- Turn off the coffee maker and allow it to cool down for 15 minutes or more. Pour out the vinegar and water solution and rinse thoroughly with cold distilled water.
- In order to make sure that the coffee maker is totally clean; fill it again with distilled water and switch it on to start the brewing process. You can repeat the brewing process using distilled water for about 2 to 3 times until totally clean. Let it cool for 20 minutes and pour out water from the coffee pot.
Using white vinegar in cleaning coffee pot is more convenient than using commercial products. It is also safe to use and doesn’t damage your pot. You can also repeat the brewing process using vinegar solution for 2 to 3 times until you achieve the desired cleanliness. It is best to do the cleaning procedure at least once or twice a month. Avoid using hard cleaning solutions especially with ammonia content as this can be very dangerous especially when not properly rinsed.
