How to Clean Concrete

Concrete are usually composed of cements or other construction materials that solidifies after mixing with water. It comes in various forms such as pave walks, walls, bridges, architectural structure, roads and foundations. In other words, they are the fixed or stationary structure that cannot be move, or if you move, damages might occur. Most of the time they are seldom given attention after construction but they makes life easier. Roads and bridges fasten transportation. Foundations extend life of buildings and walls in our homes serves as our shelter. In some year after building, fragments and other unpleasant chemical such as stain, grease or dust inhabit along our concretes. It is necessary to clean them even twice a year or as you desire except for walls, home floors and similar structures that needs to be clean regularly.

The following may help you in cleaning your concretes.

  • Floor. This is the most common concrete found everywhere. Clean the floor by using floor maps put in bleach or cleaning solution bought over the counter and dissolve it in water. You can simply use water if they are nothing-hard material stuck on it. If there is, use stain or grout remover on brush and scrub it until the foreign object disappear. Wash the floor after and dry it by rag or wait until the water vanishes. Apply floor shiner, as you desire. For hard-stuck objects and troubled using chemicals, use power washer. Spray it thoroughly on the floor and read the manual first for specific instructions. For oil spills, and the mentioned method does not work, use a degreaser. Make sure to sweep over the area especially the corners before starting.
  • Walls. Cleaning walls is as easy as cleaning the floor. However, using harsh chemicals may alter wall color or design if there is. Walls are more sensitive to clean than floor since it contain design in most cases. Find appropriate remover for every foreign object. Certainly, it is not advisable to use power washer in cleaning walls. Cotton cloths are suitable in wiping dust and putting on your remover (e.g. rust/stain remover).
  • Ceiling. Some ceilings are made of cements. Cleaning it is as easy as cleaning walls and floors. Ceiling might contain less stain except for dust and mesh. You must sweep those webs first to avoid it enter your eyes while you are cleaning. Use stain remover if there is any stain. It is advisable to use cloth dump in bleach solution since only dust might probably present on ceilings.
  • Other concretes. Concretes like driveway, pave walks and gateway does not require complicated cleaning methods. You can clean them just like cleaning a floor. Use a detergent solution or a degreaser for oil spills and grease. Using a power washer may give a better result. Bridges and architectural structures use specific cleaning technique in maintaining their appearance. It is necessary to prolong the life and look of such structures. Otherwise, ordinary clean method may cause damages.

For your safety, do not use high concentrated acid solutions. Wear safety gear such as gloves. Protect your eyes, hand and other body part be contaminated from chemicals. Applying the materials above differ on how hard the object to remove. Repeat if necessary. The solutions also differ how long they evaporate, get sticky, harden or liquefy. Read the instruction manual of any purchased materials in cleaning if any.
