How to Clean a CPAP Hose

CPAP therapy is very crucial especially those that are experiencing sleep deprivation. Aside from making sure that your CPAP machine is working properly, proper cleaning is also essential in order to prolong its life. Having a dirty CPAP machine can even cause a lot of discomfort and is very unhealthy. One important part to clean is the CPAP hose. Some people may think that cleaning CPAP hose requires stamina and is very hard to do. The truth is that cleaning this machine is quite an easy task. Proper knowledge is beneficial in order to properly maintain a clean CPAP machine.

The things that you will need are sink or bucket, clean water, mild unscented soap, clean towels and cleaning solution.

Here are the simple ways in cleaning CPAP hose:

  • First thing to note is to read the manufacturer’s guide in detaching CPAP machine. You’re your time in reading. Proper knowledge with the device is important to prevent from damaging it.
  • After learning how to handle the device, carefully remove the CPAP hose into the CPAP machine.
  • Wash your CPAP hose with clean water before proceeding to the actual cleaning process.
  • If you are using your sink in cleaning CPAP device, simply pour in water into the sink. If you’re using bucket, fill in with warm water and add your mild soap. It is best to use unscented soap in cleaning your CPAP hose. Mix your solution properly.
  • Get your CPAP hose and place it inside your bucket with cleaning solution.
  • Allow the hose to sit for several minutes. The soaking method allows loosening up dirt particles.
  • After soaking, use a sponge and unscented soap in cleaning the wall of the hose.
  • Wash the CPAP hose with running water. Make certain to remove dirt particles and soapy solution. Repeat washing the CPAP hose for two times to ensure proper cleaning.
  • Wipe your CPAP hose with a clean towel and hang it to a clean place allowing it to dry for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  • After it has dried, place it back to the CPAP device.

It is advisable to clean your CPAP device with mild soap and warm water. Using commercial cleaning solution is not recommended. However, if the debris are still present, you can ask assistance to the manufacturer regarding the suitable cleaning solution. Avoid using strong chemicals especially with ammonia content. Ammonia cleaning solution is very dangerous especially with CPAP device. It is hazardous to your health especially when inhaled.
