Etching is caused by water or other liquid substances that causes stain and streaks on your marble. Etched marble can be hard to eliminate with simple scrubbing. It is important to use correct cleaning solution in order to bring back its natural luster and shine. Cleaning an etched marble is easy and the cleaning tools are just found at home.
The things that you will need are small bucket, baking soda, warm water, damp cloth, dry towel, chalk and clean absorbent cloth.
Here are the steps in cleaning an etched marble:
- Gather the cleaning materials. You can put on rubber gloves if you desire.
- Get a small bucket and add 3 teaspoons of baking soda. Pour in 1 quart of warm water into the bucket and mix the baking soda solution with your hands.
- Use a soft cotton cloth in wiping etched marble. Dip the cloth into the bucket with baking soda solution and scrub the entire etched surface of your marble. Pay particular attention to the marble stains.
- Allow the baking soda solution to sit for an hour.
- Rinse the mixed solution with lukewarm water.
- Wipe the area with a clean, absorbent cloth.
- Allow the marble to completely dry for several hours.
- Get a chalk and crush it to form a fine powder.
- Use a dampened cloth in wiping the marble. Sprinkle generous amounts of chalk powder into the cloth.
- Use an overlapping stroke in wiping your marble.
- Rinse the marble with clear water and wipe it again with a dry towel.
- Allow the marble to dry completely.
Avoid using abrasive cleaning agent in removing the etching appearance from your marble as harsh chemicals can produce water spots and may stain your marble.
