Simple solutions to your child's messy room

Keeping a child’s room clean has always been a challenge. Children consider their room their own personal space, their own playground of sorts; the neatness of their room is usually the last thing on their minds. And when you do clean up after them, they get angry that someone has moved their things. What to do, what to do?

Getting your child involved with cleaning up is actually really simple. Instead of yelling and berating your children, try applying some techniques to make cleaning more fun for them. Try a scavenger hunt, where you put clues around their room to find their favorite toy. And as they go around looking for it, they have to do tasks that will bring cleanliness back to their room.

You can also try creating a checklist of their chores, including tasks like: “make bed”, “put away clean clothes” or “fix study desk”. Put the list on their bedroom door, and once a task is finished, take it off the list and give them a small reward.

But the best way to get your children to clean their room is to simply lead them by example. Never neglect your own room’s cleanliness! As a parent, you must always remember that your child will learn not only through your words but also through your actions.
